Dr. William (Bill) Carruthers is President/CEO of GrantProse, Inc. After serving in the United States Air Force, Bill got his start in education as a school psychologist in Kansas. In 1980, he and his family moved to North Carolina where he was first employed as a school psychologist in the Wake County Public School System located in Raleigh. In 1998, he was named the Senior Director for Grant Administration for the school district. He helped school district personnel secure more than $60 million in grant funding until his retirement from the school system in 2008. In his 'retirement', Bill has begun his second career and keeps busy with GrantProse, providing agencies, organizations and institutions with professional grant writing services. Rita Lewis provides support to GrantProse customers with proposal development. Rita has more than 20 years' experience as an editor and writer for nonprofits, corporations, and consulting firms. She is a highly skilled editor and a versatile, experienced writer who has written varied types of copy:
- feature articles for newspapers, magazines, and newsletters;
- promotional and marketing copy;
- informational books;
- technical reports and literature reviews;
- articles for scholarly journals and professional magazines, and
- grant proposals.
For 10 years, Rita worked for an educational evaluator, editing and writing reports to describe statistical findings on grant-funded programs for technical and non-technical audiences alike. She helped report data outcomes to address accountability requirements for various grants, and translated structured interview results into clearly written narrative. She gained a clear perspective of the responsibility involved in receiving a grant--accountability to the funding source--which also informs the process of writing a grant proposal.
Rita makes extensive use of the Web for research, and has excellent computer skills in various software packages. She holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees and volunteers regularly for community organizations and in public schools. Contact Rita at Rita@GrantProseInc.com

RV Rikard provides support to GrantProse customers with proposal development, and he is also the GrantProse webmaster. Prior to joining GrantProse, RV was a grants development coordinator for the Wake County Public School System where he assisted teachers and administrators to locate grant funding, along with managing grant development projects for several federal, state, and private grants. RV is active in the world of grantsmanship as a member of the Grants Information Network (GIN) in the Triangle area, and is also employed with state government where he oversees grant programs.
RV is a doctoral candidate at NC State University with plans to defend his dissertation by December 2008. From 2003 to 2007, he was a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at NC State where he taught Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems in America, Criminology, and facilitated the first Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program in North Carolina. RV's research interests include health disparities, medical care for institutional populations, community context and health, aging and the life course, and health literacy. He is published in the Journal of Aging and Social Policy, Women and Criminal Justice, Journal of Correctional Healthcare, and the Journal for the National Grant Management Association (in press).
